That was last Wednesday at Honolua Bay, on of the bigger sets of the day. A great shot I felt needed to be shared with everyone.

Der Frühling ist noch keine Woche alt, aber wir sehen noch keine Anzeichen, dass die Wintersurfsaison schon zu Ende sein sollte. Wir surften eben einen Epic-Sommerswell im Süden und kurz danach kam ein grosser Swell aus dem Norden. Honolua Bay war wieder mal am Qualmen, aber wie immer an diesen Tagen, surften nur die Jungs auf der Gästeliste. Als die Party dann aber etwas abflaute, durfte auch Mainereiner in die Röhre kucken, (oder besser aus der Röhre)

OK, wir haben nun den ganzen Winter über zugeschaut wie die North Shore und Honolua Bay einen der besten Winter je erlebt haben.

Wenn jedoch die Riffe im Süden Mauis zu erwachen beginnen, dann ist das der Inbegriff vom Pazifischen Traum. Früh Morgens ist das Wasser so „glassy“ dass man meint es wäre ein Ölteppich und die Wellen schälen sich so perfekt uber das Riff, dass man meint man sei in Indonesien.

Sorry, ich habe leider kein Foto davon, da ich selber im Wasser war, ihr müsst es Euch vorstellen…für den Moment auf jeden Fall.

A larger north swell has been hitting the Hawaiian shores since yesterday. As it looks like the swell must have been peaking today. The wind conditions could not have been better. Light easterly trade winds made it possible to surf not only at Honolua Bay. As you can see in the pictures the sets were solid. I will spare you with a size measurement, as size always depends on who you ask.

Anyway, I did not surf H-Bay today, I went to a more mellow spot a few miles south. The sets had still a nice size but the crowds are more mellow there. Unfortunately the fun ended when I came back to my car to find my spare 6′2″ stolen from my truck. I am wondering what sicko would do that, as the chances are big that sooner or later I will find my board being surfed some where on Maui calling out the prick who took to give it back to me.

Anyway, I had a hard time picking the shots of the day, as there were so many good ones, so enjoy some of the best pictures of the year. (At least for my opinion)

Meine Kollege Josh hat mir eben dieses Bild geschickt von seinem SUP Ausflug am letztes Wochenende. Nicht schlechte Begegnung…einfach nicht vergessen: Ein Flossenschlag und Du bist weg, aber ganz weg.

Laut hawaiianischem Gesetz ist es verboten den Walen nahe zu kommen, aber wenn die Wale einem nahe kommen, ist es legal. Deshalb lassen sich viele im Wasser treiben und hoffen auf die Begegnung mit der grossen Art.

Another solid swell built over night and reached Honolua Bay. The direction this time was more north, which gave the wave a bit of a different shape. Especially the Cave section of Honolua Bay prefers a westerly direction. Nevertheless some of the bigger sets were easy triple over head, but it were the medium waves with the good barrels.
