A great day today for surfing in Hawai’i. The trades were moderate at 11.7kts and the readings from buoy #1 came in at about 8feet 16seconds. A good day for another round  of the Reef Hawaiian Pro 2009 at Hale’iwas Ali’i Beach Park. The waves were in the 6-8feet range on the set, so the boys took out their bigger boards.

Unfortunately from a Maui point of view the day did not go that well, all of our Local Boys from Lahain did not advance to Round of 32. From a European point of view the day was a rather good one: The tow hombres from Euskati, Hodai Collazo and Artiz Aranburu as well as Alain Riou from France. Other than that there are only Hawaiians, Americans, Aussies and Brazilians left to compete with. Sunny Garcia is also still in the race after his absents from the contest live.

I am looking forward to be at the scene tomorrow my self to capture some pictures.

Nie der Einzige

As far as the surf on Maui goes, it was the usual business: The swell that hit O’ahu arrived here later in the day with inconsistent 3-5feet. Due to the anticipation and Honolua Bay being the only spot to surf on West Maui the place was accordingly crowded.

Diese Wochenende war es endlich wieder so weit: Die „elements & water“ by Focus Evolution fand zum 2.mal  in Köln statt.

MikeJuckerHawaii war natürlich auch mit dabei und zeigte exklusive Labels aus Hawaii. „Wir waren recht zufrieden, die Leute mochten unseren Stand und wir wurden gut frequentiert,“  verlautete O’Barns Product- und Salesmanager.

O’Barns war besonders zufrieden weil am Rande der Messe der neuste MikeJuckerHawaii Film „out there“ gezeigt wurde. „Wir brachten wieder einmal Hawaiifeeling pur nach Kölle,“ schmunzelt O’Barns.

Ein spezielles Dankeschön geht auch an Fritzyboy, der wieder mal mit dabei war um uns tüchtig zur Hand zu gehen. DANKESCHöN!

Today I was at Ho’okipa for the HSSA (Hawaiian Scholastic Surf Assocciaton) Surf Bash Junior Contest. I visited the mauirippers Team competing in the contetest. Mauirippers sponsors some promising Maui Grommets who were in the contest today. A web cast and Maurippers promo clip from the event will follow soon.

The conditions to day were OK with sets in the 1-3feet range. We are expecting a swell to hit the shores very soon and look forward to the remaining part of the Reef Hawaiian Pro 2009 in Hale’iwa.

Die Bedingungen Heute waren OK mit Wellen in der höhe von knapp 1.50m. Wir erwarten einen grösseren Swell auf Anfang Woche und freuen uns auf den Weiteren Verlauf der Triple Crown.

Local time, who cares

So what do you write about, if there is nothing to write about? Exactly, you write about nothing and take a picture about nothing. That is what people do, just like me. Just went to the store to get my self a sushi hand roll and take a picture of my mess on my desk. That is something…that is nothing, well who is to say what is nothing or something a thing.

Anyway, I promised to contribute everyday something or nothing and today I vowed to cotribute nothing.

Not much happening today on at Honolua Bay. I went there for a quick surf check this afternoon but there was nothing happening, just a few desperate guys waiting for a set here and there. Honolua Bay always amaizes me, there are crowds even if it is tiny. Man könnte schon fast sagen es war flachholland an der Honolua Bucht.

Nicht viel besser aber etwas sah es Heute in Hale’iwa aus. Die Wellen waren gerade mal Kopfhoch, also noch genug für das Contest-OK der Reef Hawaiian Pro und des Vans Pro der Frauen ihren Event weiter zu führen. Ich bin sicher viele deutsche Fans haben Heute auf den Auftritt von Marlon Lipke gewartet. Er sollte den ersten Heat des Tages Surfen in der Round of 96 Heat #15, aber leider erfuhr man, dass der sich verletzt hat und deshalb nicht zum Heat antreten konnte. Weitere Details liegen leider nicht vor. Hoffentlich sehen wir Marlon dann in Action am Sunset Contest.

Im zweiten und letzten Heat des Tages schied auch leider Andy Irons aus. Im Heat #16 in Round of 96 konnte er nicht die richigen Wellen scoren und am Schluss lief ihm die Zeit weg. Das war eine herbe Entaeuschung fuer alle die sich schon auf die Endrunden gefreut haben.

Gleich danach ging es bei den Frauen weiter. In der Round of 32 waren 30 Frauen am Start und es wurde in 5er Heats gesurft. Danach ging es zurück zum regulären 4er Heat Modus. Im Halbfinal waren dann noch 3 Australierinnen 3 Hawaiianerinnen die Peruanerin Sofia Mulanovich und die aus Frankreich stammende Lee Ann Curren. Interessanterweise waren im ersten Heat der Semifinals alle Aussies zusammen plus Lee Ann und im zweiten Heat alle Localgirls plus Sofia die Peruanerin.

Im ersten Semi setzte sich Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) und Rebecca Woods (AUS) durch und im zweiten Heat dann Sofia Mulanovich (PER) und Alana Blanchard (HAW).

Der Final war dann fuer ein Ãœberraschung gut: Sofia Mulanovich und Stephanie Gilmore waren die eindeutigen Favoritinnen, beide haben schon einiges auf dem Kerbholz und wurden schon mehrmals Weltmeister. Aber es waren eben nich die Zwei die den Final unter sich entschieden sondern Alana Blanchard aus Kauai kam aus dem nichts und gewann den Final klar vor den zwei Favoritinnen.

Alana gab in ihrem Siege Interview dann auch an dass sie sich besonders freue, da Ihr Freund Heute auch noch 21 wurde.
